What is Camp Blackmon?Camp Blackmon is a summer enrichment camp run by Mrs. Jennifer Blackmon for elementary students in the Matthews/Mint Hill area. The Camps are theme-based and include a fun Friday field trip at the conclusion of the camp week (unless otherwise noted in the description). Each camp is designed with engagement, exploration and enrichment in mind and runs Monday-Friday from 8:30am-3:30pm. Camp themes vary each year and are geared towards rising third grade-sixth grade students.

Who is Mrs. Blackmon?I am Mrs. Jennifer Blackmon and I have been an elementary teacher for 20 years with experience teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. I am Nationally Board Certified and have a Master's Degree in Literacy. I am AIG certified which means I am qualified to work specifically with students who are academically and intellectually gifted. I love to design creative ways to reach and teach kids that will get them excited and curious about learning! I am also a mother of three-ages 17, 15 and 8.

Where is Camp Blackmon located?Camp Blackmon is located in Mrs. Blackmon's home in Mint Hill, NC. We spend Monday-Thursday there and on Friday we travel as a group to our Fun Friday Field Trip destination.

What kinds of activities will my child do at Camp Blackmon?All activities are thoughtfully planned and aligned with the age group of the campers and the theme of the camp in mind. I work hard to create meaningful and educational experiences for your child that may include but are not limited too--novel studies, non-fiction research, movie-making, cooking, arts and crafts, gardening, building, experiments, games, video related to content, and movement.

What are the hours and arrival/dismissal procedures of Camp Blackmon?Camp begins at 8:30am and concludes at 3:30 pm Monday-Thursday. Campers are dropped off in the front of Mrs. Blackmon's home each morning and she is outside to greet them. Once all campers have arrived for the day, everyone moves indoors to begin the scheduled activities for the day. Campers are packed up and ready for dismissal at 3:30 each afternoon. Mrs. Blackmon stays outside on the porch with campers until each child is safely picked up by an approved parent/guardian. NOTE: Please let Mrs. Blackmon know daily if there are changes to your transportation arrangements for the safety and well-being of all campers.

What might a typical schedule look like for a day at Camp Blackmon?

Where do campers go for field trips? What do they do there?Each camp week ends with a fun Friday field trip. These trips are designed to bring the theme of the camp to life for the children. Camp destinations may include but are not limited to Discovery Place/IMAX in Charlotte, the NC Natural Science Museum in Raleigh, the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, the Planetarium at the Schiele Museum in Gastonia, and the NC History Museum. Each year the field trips destinations will vary depending upon the camp themes.

What does my payment include and not include?Your payment includes a week-long camp experience for your child, all supplies for camp arts/crafts, reading/research materials, cooking ingredients, field trip admission fees & transportation costs for the field trip. Fees can also include additional items such as books for campers to keep, t-shirts for the field trip, themed novelty items, etc. Your child will have all of the supplies they need at Camp Blackmon to complete all of our activities. Fees do NOT include lunch or snacks. Those must be packed at home for campers each day and brought to Mrs. Blackmon's house.
